I am from the western New York area USA. have been working with bees 6+ years. more in to the study & passion of beekeeeping rather than the production of honey, (just a happy bonus). Found wild swarms to be quite tenacious and hardy, but I'm willing to try other breeds. I've tried Italian and Carniolans. This year I'm going to try some Russian bees I've seen new on the market; curious with the results in temperment, productivity, and resistance to pest and disease. Have (and still do) used the Dadant hive, but I'm interested in trying the thirteen frame Langstroth hive. Found the book "ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture" by A. I. Root to be quite informative and aiding in begining and advanced beekeeping. I resently found an amazingly simple and effective ways of bee removal. I find the Apiservices-site very useful, and as a matter of fact - one of the best projected beekeepers related sites on the WEB. May be the most powerfull tool of Apiservices are the up to date market researches, which bring more light into the world honey production. For example, - the Feasibillity Study about beekeeping in Vietnam - it is really remarkable.
