HONEY AND HEALING

A new book which takes a balanced and accurate look at the healing
power of honey. Its theme is one of growing interest to all,
including an increasing number in the medical professions,
particularly those in the front line fight to heal wounds, burns and
ulcers. This book could have a direct relevance to their work.

Honey bees, in relatively unchanged form, have been around for over 50
million years. It is not surprising therefore that their involvement
with humans must pre-date history. Cave paintings depict man hunting
honey which seems to have been recognized from the beginning as a
precious product and cure for ills.

Now the use of honey as a therapeutic substance is being rediscovered
and it is gaining acceptance by the medical profession as an
antibacterial and antiviral agent in the treatment of ulcers, wounds,
burns and skin infections.

In this subject area it is always a problem to disentangle folklore
from serious research. This latest IBRA publication (Due out 28 April
2001) does just that with the help of leading world experts, who
unravel some of the mysteries. The topics covered include: · Honey and
healing through the ages · Why honey is effective as a medicine · A
scientific explanation of the effects of honey · The role of honey in
wound healing and repair · Stingless bee honey as a medicine · Infant
botulism.
